Garden Assistant
Where: Tamarack Nature Center
Starting wage: $16.35/hour.
Estimated hours: 20 hours per week.
Tamarack Nature Center is looking for a passionate, hard-working individual to help support & maintain our garden through sowing seeds, planting, weeding, harvesting and much more. This individual may also be asked to assist with summer programming, such as day camp, garden volunteers and doing interpretive work with guests. The position is for 20 hours a week. Golf Grounds Staff
Where: Keller Golf Course and Goodrich Golf Course.
Starting wage: $15.91/hour.
Estimated hours: Weekdays, 6 a.m. or earlier and some weekends. Full-time and part-time hours available.
The Golf Grounds Staff job is perfect for anyone who loves golf or working outdoors. In this position, entry-level staff will operate string trimmers, push mowers, backpack blowers, utility vehicles and other equipment associated with the daily tasks of maintaining a golf course.
In this position you can expect an outdoor work environment, flexible scheduling, uniforms and complimentary golf as available.
Lifeguard
When: June 8–Aug. 18, 2024
Where: Battle Creek Waterworks waterpark and Lake McCarrons.
Starting wage: $19.70/hour.
Age requirement: 18+ to work at Ramsey County beaches; 16+ to work at Waterworks.
In order to be considered for this position individuals must be lifeguard certified. Certification classes will be held on April 6-8 and June 8-10. A recertification class will be held May 20. Lifeguarding is an incredibly rewarding job that is as mentally and physically challenging as it is fun and memorable. Staff will spend all summer pool or beach side while being a hero. Certified lifeguards in this position are responsible for maintaining a safe swimming environment at Ramsey County facilities.
Office Support Staff
Where: Parks Admin Building – 2015 Van Dyke Street in Maplewood
Starting wage: $15.84 to $19.00 an hour based on typing and customer service experience
Estimated hours: May through Sept. Approximately 24 -40 hours -- weekdays only -- 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
This position courteously and promptly handles incoming parks reservation calls, questions from residents and other office support duties. It requires the ability to type 40 words per minute and effective communication by phone, in person and through email. Moderate skills in navigating the internet and using Microsoft Office are required.
Park Maintenance
Where: Ramsey County’s parks, trails and facilities.
Starting wage: $15.22/hour.
Estimated hours: Weekdays, 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m. weekends, 5 a.m.–1 p.m. Full-time hours available.
This position provides an opportunity to work outdoors during the summer doing a variety of tasks. Park maintenance works with full-time staff to maintain the county’s parks, trails and facilities. Typical duties include mowing, using a line trimmer, emptying and picking up garbage, using a blower, power washing shelters and cleaning restrooms.
There are two shifts but there is some flexibility. One shift is Tuesday through Saturday the other shift is Sunday through Thursday. Weekdays are 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and weekends are 5 a.m.–1 p.m. In a typical week, a park aide typically works 40 hours with an opportunity to work more.
Park Services Coordinator
Where: Ramsey County’s parks.
Starting wage: $16.87/hour.
Estimated hours: 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.
As a park services coordinator, staff oversee picnic shelters and pavilions during weekends to provide customer service to facility renters. Staff in this position can expect to perform cleanup and light maintenance at parks as needed. Park services coordinators will use a Ramsey County vehicle to travel to all parks and carry out assigned tasks.
Pool Operator
Where: Battle Creek Waterworks in Maplewood.
Starting wage: $16.87/hour.
Work Hours: Daily, 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. Days off will be coordinated with those hired.
This temporary position will serve as a Certified Pool Operator located at the Battle Creek Waterworks water park. Temporary assignments work up to a maximum of six months. Candidates chosen to hire into a temporary assignment will not gain any rights or preferences for other permanent, Ramsey County positions.
The Certified Pool Operator will conduct routine maintenance and tests of the pools and pool equipment; prepare the facility for daily use by cleaning and maintaining the pools, pool deck, bathrooms, aquatic facilities, and ground.
Summer Camp Naturalist
Summer Camp Early Childhood Naturalist (Part-time)
Where: Tamarack Nature Center
Starting wage: $20.83/hour.
Naturalists will create and lead environmentally based educational program for preschool-age campers. Activities include daily contact with parents and supervision of small and large group programs. Summer naturalists work in a team setting with other naturalists and youth volunteers. Over 75% of time is spent outdoors.
Applicants should have two years of post-secondary education focused on biology, ecology, environmental science, science education or a related field and one year of experience with environmentally based education programming.
The 2024 season runs from June 13th- August 16th and includes a mandatory training week. All summer camp staff will be off without pay June 19th and July 4th-5th. Part-time summer naturalists are expected to work between 25-30 hours per week. Hours may vary slightly. Standard workdays are Monday-Thursday noon-5pm, with the possibility of a few full-time days, and Fridays from 8am-4pm.

Waterworks Admissions

In this position, staff will interact with kids and families who are excited for sun and swimming. The admissions person is responsible for welcoming people to the water park, taking money at the front counter, doing some light cleaning and handing out life jackets when necessary.
The Waterworks Admissions position can be combined with a Park Count job so that some days you're out in the parks counting, and some days you're at Waterworks. If you are interested in learning more contact Thony Thao.

Park & Recreation Aide 1
When: May 24–Sept. 2, 2024 (Memorial weekend through Labor Day)
Where: Various regional parks/trails
Starting wage: $15.91/hour.
Estimated hours: Each shift is 2-hour, but can be assigned to multiple 2 hour shifts throughout the day based upon availability.
In this position, staff will go to various regional park and trail locations throughout Ramsey County park system. The park count staff is responsible for showing up to the assigned location on time, count park users as they are entering the park/trail at the specific location, and submitting the counts on time.
