Changes to adult library fines and regional library hours begin Jan. 1

On Dec. 21 the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners approved the 2022-2023 budget which includes eliminating adult library fines and slightly reducing hours at the three regional libraries. The Library has aligned resources to support several strategic priorities including Residents First, Advancing Racial and Health Equity and Shared Community Power.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2022, the libraries in Maplewood, Roseville and Shoreview will close one hour earlier at 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours will remain the same. The change to hours is being made to meet the property tax levy target, support operational efficiencies, and better align closing hours with our Metropolitan Library Service Agency partners.

In addition, adult late fines will be eliminated in alignment with the Racial Equity strategic priority and removing barriers to accessing Library materials. These fines were suspended during the pandemic and will now be permanent. This policy change aligns with the 2020 efforts to eliminate late fines on all youth materials.
