Evergreen (Christmas) Trees

Special Note for 2019-2020: The Minnesota Department of Agriculture advises managing your holiday tree in a timely manner. Do not leave your tree in your yard all winter as a precaution against elongate hemlock scale (EHS). Although holiday trees have not been found to be infested with EHS, this best practice will help reduce spread if the pest is found on holiday trees.

Legal Considerations

While a holiday tree can legally be placed in the trash, Ramsey County encourages you to bring it to a yard waste collection site so it can be turned into useful mulch.

Bring evergreen (Christmas) trees to the following yard waste collection sites for free:

Remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel and tree bags before disposal. Flocked trees are NOT accepted and may be placed in the trash.

You can also contact your trash hauler to pick up your tree (fee charged).

See holiday greenery for disposal instructions for wreaths and garland.
