I-35W North MnPASS construction to impact county roads

Construction began in March 2019 on new MnPASS lanes on I-35W between County Road C in Roseville and Lexington Avenue in Blaine. MnDOT is installing the lanes to help reduce current and future congestion on I-35W.

Starting April 16, one lane of southbound I-35W will be closed between Highway 96 and County Road E2. The lane closure will last through November.

Construction is expected to last through the fall of 2021.

Impacted county roads

During construction, travelers should prepare for increased traffic on county roads near the project area due to detours and closures on I-35W. Temporary traffic control measures will also be in place on county roads during construction.

County Road I: The southbound I-35W off-ramp to County Road I will close at 8 p.m. Monday, June 10. A signed detour will be in place using County Road H. The closure is expected to last through late fall.

County Road C:

  • The entrance ramps to southbound I-35W from County Road C and Long Lake Road will close at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. A signed detour will be in place using County Road D. The closure is expected to last through late fall.
  • County Road C will be closed at I-35W from 10 p.m. Friday, June 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 1. A signed detour will be posted.

Traffic on County Road C will also be impacted this summer by road reconstruction between New Brighton Boulevard and Long Lake Road and concrete repair work between Cleveland and Snelling avenues.

Snelling and Hamline avenues: As of April 8, the left turn lane from southbound Snelling Avenue onto Hamline Avenue is closed due to increased traffic on northbound Snelling Avenue. Extra traffic is expected throughout the summer due to the I-35W North MnPASS project.
