Janet Guthrie named Director of Administrative Services and Chief Clerk to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners
Janet Guthrie has been named Ramsey County’s new Director of Administrative Services and Chief Clerk to the board of commissioners, effective immediately.
In her new role, Guthrie will support the work of the county board, its committees and related boards and commissions while also providing policy development, strategic analysis and oversight of the daily administrative operations of the County Manager’s Office.
Guthrie has served on special assignment as Acting Chief Clerk since May 2015, when Bonnie Jackelen retired from the position after 27 years. Prior to the assignment, Guthrie worked in the County Manager’s Office as a Senior Policy Analyst for seven years, providing policy and planning support for several multi-year projects involving regional equity and economic prosperity, access to employment resources, at-risk youth and the county’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan. She began her career with Ramsey County in 2000 in its Workforce Solutions department.
“Janet’s deep knowledge of Ramsey County’s mission and business – as well as her abilities to streamline administrative systems, foster transparency and build solid working relationships across departments – make her an ideal fit for this position,” said County Manager Julie Kleinschmidt. “Her insights, management skills and commitment to serving our residents will be a tremendous asset to both the county board and the entire organization.”
Prior to joining the county, Guthrie served as the Assistant Director of Community Education for Roseville Area Schools. She also has more than 25 years of experience as an independent training and organizational development consultant.
Guthrie holds a bachelor’s degree in art therapy and gerontology from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in management from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. She resides in Shoreview.
