RACE - The Power of an Illusion series at Ramsey County Library - Roseville

Ramsey County Library - Roseville is hosting a series in March to view and discuss RACE - The Power of an Illusion, a provocative film series questioning the idea of race as biology. The series provides an eye-opening discussion tool to help people examine their beliefs about race, privilege, policy and justice.

Events are held Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Community Program Room at Ramsey County Library - Roseville.

The series is presented in partnership with the City of Roseville, Do Good Roseville, the Roseville Human Rights Commission and the Shoreview Human Rights Commission.

Series schedule

  • March 1: The Difference Between Us
Part one examines how recent scientific discoveries have toppled the concept of biological race.
  • March 8: The Story We Tell
Part two uncovers the roots of the race concept, including the 19th century science that legitimated it and the hold it has gained over our minds.
  • March 15: The House We Live In
Part three focuses not on individual behaviors and attitudes, but on how our institutions shape and create race, giving different groups vastly unequal life chances.
