Robert Adney and Megan Mitchell receive employee achievement awards

Jan. 26 board of commissioners meeting

Two county employees were presented with an employee achievement award at the Jan. 26 board of commissioners meeting:

  • Robert Adney, Emergency Communications Center Supervisor.
  • Megan Mitchell, Social Worker in Permanent Connections Unit.

Mr. Adney is responsible for the daily flow, staffing and constant monitoring of emergency situations at the Emergency Communications Center (ECC). Under his direction, the team has been able to successfully complete several new TC academies, Law academies, Fire academies and Data academies. In addition, he has lead projects like the ECC Training Team, Data Focus Group and has reorganized and updated training materials ensuring compliance with agency partners. His tireless work ethic ensures ECC staff is in the loop and his calm demeanor helps neutralize a sometimes chaotic environment. A staff member who reports to Mr. Adeny, stated he has been an invaluable source to their success and in supplying them with the tools and knowledge to be better and to do better.

Ms. Mitchell navigated an emergency involving a child on her caseload during the COVID-19 pandemic. The child was involved in a serious car crash and Ms. Mitchell was called on to understand a complex medical situation, while also guiding the pre-adoptive family through an extremely emotional time. She spent many hours working with medical professionals and the pre-adoptive family to meet the child’s constantly changing medical needs. When it became clear the child would not survive, she helped pull together a team of individuals from multiple organizations to complete the adoption of the child and her two siblings before the child passed away. Ms. Mitchell continued to work with county, the funeral home and the family to ensure a memorial service was held to honor the child. Her colleagues describe her as the definition of an exemplary social worker and someone who cares deeply for the children and families she serves with dedication, precision, compassion and empathy.
