Sept. 15 information and discussion session for Hennepin and Ramsey juvenile program

Hennepin and Ramsey counties will host an information and discussion session about the Hennepin and Ramsey Juvenile Program on Sept. 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the auditorium of the Wilder Center.

The two counties are currently discussing combining their residential youth treatment programs currently provided through the Hennepin County Home School (CHS) and Ramsey County Boys Totem Town (BTT).

The counties began studying a possible merger of their respective programs to provide improved treatment options to youth and families while keeping youth closer to home.

Each year, too many Hennepin and Ramsey youth are sent to treatment programs located in Greater Minnesota or other states due to a lack of local options.

County staff will provide community members with an overview of the study and program goals at the session. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns and speak with county administration.

This session will be the first in a series of community engagement events held in the coming months as the study enters the predesign process. During the Sept. 15 session, community members will also be invited to provide input on the format and frequency of upcoming events.

A final decision to create a combined program or facility has not been made. Both county boards are anticipated to vote on moving forward with the initiative in spring 2017 following the conclusion of the predesign study and community engagement process.

The Wilder Center is located at 451 Lexington Parkway North in Saint Paul. Free parking for the session is available in the center’s lot.
