The project will impact the existing Battle Creek and trail corridor in the southwest corner of Battle Creek Regional Park. Work activities completed by MCES includes sewer lining, manhole replacement, along with operational and safety improvements. The MCES sanitary sewer project began in October 2020 and will continue through November 2021.

More information about the project can be found through the MCES project page.

Impacted park areas

Battle Creek Regional Park and trail corridor

Access to the Battle Creek Regional Park trail corridor will remain closed throughout the duration of the project, through November 2021. The trail sections north of Upper Afton and south of Upper Afton are closed.

All maps are PDFs.

Park entrance road and lower parking lot

Access to the park entrance road and lower parking lot adjacent to Highway 61 will be closed December 2020 through November 2021.

Mountain bikers and grass trail hikers may park at the Battle Creek Recreation Center off of Winthrop Street and Upper Afton Road. Paved trails can also be accessed from the main Battle Creek park.

Mountain bike trails

Mountain bike trail conditions may be found through the Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC) website.

Trails north and south of the ravine will often not connect during construction. The connection near the Lower Lot will be closed when there is active construction in that area and the lot will remain closed. Work is anticipated in the area through late-July. Trail users should follow posted detour signs and should not cross fenced-off/barricaded areas.
