Boys Totem Town

On Aug. 1, 2019, Ramsey County suspended operations at Boys Totem Town.

In the months ahead, Ramsey County will work in partnership with the City of Saint Paul, the District 1 Community Council and other stakeholders in a community-based process about potential future uses of the site.

As part of the process, Ramsey County and Saint Paul will develop an engagement plan with the community to ensure there is equitable land use of the Boys Totem Town site.

History

Boys Totem Town (BTT) was a residential program for up to 36 adolescent boys age 14-18 who had been committed by the court to treatment for committing offenses and demonstrating risky behavioral concerns in the community. Located in Saint Paul’s Battle Creek neighborhood, Boys Totem Town served the Ramsey County community for more than 100 years.

Boys Totem Town provided a safe, secure and healthy environment for residents and helped facilitate community safety by providing specialized evidence-based services to youth and empowering families to prevent future out-of-home placements.

Boys Totem Town collaborated with numerous community organizations that provided treatment, resources and culturally-specific services to residents.
