Larpenteur Avenue Culvert Repair
Emergency repairs are necessary on Larpenteur Avenue in Saint Paul and Maplewood near the railroad crossing east of Rice Street.
On June 7, a sinkhole developed near the crossing due to a failing culvert. Damage to the roadway is extensive and also impacts two water mains operated by Saint Paul Regional Water Services. The repair work will be significant due to the active water mains, depth of the culvert and how close the damage is to the railroad crossing.
Repair work began Monday, June 28 and is anticipated to be complete by late July.
Crews are currently replacing the culvert. Reconstruction of the road above the culvert is expected to begin the week of July 26.
Larpenteur Avenue is closed to traffic in both directions between Camelot Street and Sylvan Street. A signed detour is in place using Arlington Avenue, Jackson Street and Rice Street.
The sidewalk along the north side of Larpenteur Avenue is currently closed for safety. A signed pedestrian detour is in place using Rice Street and the Trout Creek Trail.
Business access will be maintained throughout the closure.
