Traffic Impacts

Work on Old Highway 8 from County Road D to 5th Ave NW has begun and will last into mid-November. A signed detour will be in place using County Road E, Silver Lake Road and County Road D.

  • Phase 1 has been successfully completed, and the road is now open to local businesses on both ends.

  • Phase 2 is complete and the road is open. Eastern trail will be constructed in 2024.

Additional planning and community engagement updates will be available on the New Brighton website.

Lane shifts are in place for 2024 construction work.

4-to-3 lane conversion

Converting Old Highway 8 to a three-lane road will help increase safety for all users, reduce vehicle speeds and improve traffic flow.

Old Highway 8 was included in a 2020 study that evaluated all undivided four-lane county roads to determine whether a lane reduction would have a positive impact on safety and operations.
