The Law Enforcement Career Exploring Program (Explorers) is designed for youth ages 14 through 20 years old who have an interest in learning more about careers in public safety. The program goal is to encourage youth to become responsible citizens of the community and nation.

Ramsey County has the oldest and longest running Explorer Post in the state.

The Explorer program is able to accept new applicants during the school year. Please contact an Advisor for more information.

About the program

The Explorers Program provides youth with education, training, and first-hand career experience as well as leadership and community service opportunities. Upon entrance into the program, new explorers are required to attend an Explorer’s Academy.

Explorers meet weekly during the school year Tuesday Nights from 6-9pm.

Explorers participate in a number of activities, including classroom and practical training on a number of law enforcement scenarios. Scenarios include Traffic stops, First aid, and white collar crime. Explorers also help the Sheriff’s Office with community events; such as Slice of Shoreview, Heritage Days, Hot dog with a Deputy, assist with other various activities and partner with the Water Patrol Unit.

Explorers attend the State conference annually and compete in the many scenarios they learn about. This conference is great for building friendships, networking, and to further educate on many different other topics.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, in affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America, sponsors Explorer Post #2. Explorer Post #2 was established in 1957 and is the oldest post in Minnesota. Explorer Post #2 is a national Law Enforcement Exploring Post that competes annually at the Law Enforcement Exploring Competition. (Explorer Brochure
