Legal Considerations

It is illegal to place ballasts that contain PCBs in the trash.

Disposal

The ballast label may indicate whether or not it contains polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). If the label does not indicate this, assume the ballast contains PCBs.

Bring ballasts that contain PCBs to the household hazardous waste collection sites for free.

Put ballasts without PCBs in the trash.
