Free lead testing for soil on July 15

Residents living in zip codes 55106 and 55130 are invited to bring a soil sample from their yard to the Eastside YMCA, July 15, and have it tested for lead free of charge.

Why should you check your soil for lead?

Some homes have high amounts of lead in the soil. Lead poisoning is a concern for both children and adults. It can cause:

  • Permanent problems with health, learning and behavior in young children.
  • High blood pressure, kidney damage and fertility problems in adults.

At this event, you’ll learn about:

  • The results of your soil test (free).
  • The effects of lead on your health.
  • Resources and tools to lower your exposure to lead.
  • Upcoming workshops on raised bed gardens and resources for urban gardening.
