Keller Golf Course recognized for environmental excellence

Audubon International is recognizing Keller Golf Course for 14 years of certification as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary. Keller continues to standout for their commitment to environmental stewardship. Their comprehensive environmental management program focused on wildlife, habitat management, water conservation, resource management, outreach and education is exceptional.

“Keller golf course is proud to provide leadership in cutting edge environmental stewardship for the golf industry.  Our end goal is to improve the quality of our environment, and in doing so, inspire others to follow in our footsteps,” said Paul Diegnau, Keller golf course superintendent.

To reach certification, a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas," explained Christine Kane, CEO at Audubon International.. These categories include: Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation and Water Quality Management. Courses go through a recertification process every three years.

Keller Golf Course was designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 2008 and is one of over 900 courses in the world to be designated as such. Through participation in the ACSP for Golf, Keller Golf Course has been involved in numerous environmental projects, including conserving energy and reducing waste, utilizing integrated pest management techniques, naturalizing areas and managing resources in an environmentally responsible manner.

“We’re very proud to count Keller Golf Course among our members,” said Kane.“They made environmentally sustainable golf course management an integral part of their operating principles long before it became an accepted option. Their leadership has already brought many benefits to their community over the past decade and will continue to do so long into the future.”
