Legal Considerations

Minnesota law allows property owners to put lead painted wood waste in the trash. However, if your trash is processed into fuel at the Recycling & Energy Center in Newport, harmful lead fumes may be released into the air when that fuel is later burned to generate electricity.


A better option is to dispose of lead painted wood at a landfill through one of the disposal companies below. Call to verify items accepted, hours and fees.
