Portrait of Nadir Abdi.Ramsey County has named Nadir Abdi as the next Deputy County Manager of the Health and Wellness Service Team, following a competitive search process that began in February.

“Nadir brings a depth of experience in public service leadership, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to community well-being,” said County Manager Ling Becker. “His leadership in human services and focus on delivering responsive, people-centered programs will be a great asset as we continue working to eliminate barriers and improve outcomes for all Ramsey County residents.”

Ramsey County is Minnesota’s second-most populous county, home to approximately 10% of the state’s residents, and is recognized as one of its most diverse. As Deputy County Manager, Abdi will join the executive leadership team and play a critical role in overseeing the operations and service delivery of the Health and Wellness Service Team. This includes implementing county board policies and advancing integrated services that meet residents’ needs holistically.

Abdi brings extensive experience from his current role as Director of Employment and Economic Assistance at Dakota County, a position he has held since 2020. He has served on several leadership committees within the Minnesota Association of County Social Service Administrators (MACSSA) and advocated for systems modernization at the state legislature to benefit both employees and residents.

Abdi has led teams overseeing public assistance programs, workforce development initiatives and strategic partnerships that impact thousands each year. One of his most recent key accomplishments is the development of an enhanced contact center for all public assistance users, which introduced self-service tools, improved data access, strengthened analytics, reduced call times, and provided clients with real-time case information.

With more than two decades of experience in government administration, social policy, and community engagement, Abdi has also held leadership roles at Equus Workforce Solutions, Jewish Family Services in Columbus, Ohio, and JP Morgan Chase. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master of Management and Leadership from Hamline University.

"I’m passionate about delivering care with dignity and supporting the incredible staff who make that possible every day," said Abdi. "I am looking forward to working together with the team at Ramsey County to ensure community feels supported and valued when they need it most."

Outside of his professional life, Abdi is married and a proud father of four children, ranging from elementary school to college. He is deeply involved in community service and values family, connection, and public purpose — principles that guide his work in public service.

Abdi’s first official day with Ramsey County will be on Monday, July 14.
