Legal Considerations

It is illegal to place refrigerators and other major appliances in the trash. Refrigerators must be processed to remove hazardous materials before being recycled.


If you are purchasing a new refrigerator, ask the retailer if they will recycle your old one when they deliver the new one.

Contact your trash hauler or Best Buy for curbside pick up options.

You can also bring the refrigerator to one of the recycle companies listed below. Call to verify items accepted, hours and fees.

Refrigerators that are clean and in working condition (less than 10 years old) are accepted at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
