Sheriff's Office Women's Academy to return in June 2019

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for our second Women’s Academy, June 10 -14, 2019.

The Women’s Academy is a week-long immersive course for female participants, ages 18-55, who wish to experience the day-to-day activities and training methods of the Sheriff’s Office; with additional time devoted to field work, volunteerism and engagement in our contract communities. Up to 25 participants may join the Women’s Academy.   The Women's Academy is free for all participants.

Graduates of the Women’s Academy will receive guidance from the Sheriff’s Office recruitment team in finding and applying for opportunities and careers in law enforcement and public service.

The 40-hour Women’s Academy coursework will include:

  • Patrol operations.
  • Investigations.
  • Verbal de-escalation tactics.
  • Defensive tactics.
  • Health and wellness.
  • CrossFit training.
  • Community engagement, field work, and volunteerism.

The Women’s Academy begins on Monday, June 10 and continues to Friday, June 14, 2019, capped by a graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Course times are scheduled from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. most days with optional evening activities. Participants will be expected to attend all course hours.

Participants will spend a portion of their academy day at the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Saint Paul, with other segments scheduled off-site in different Ramsey County communities. Transportation from the Sheriff’s Office to off-site course segments will be provided.

Applications will be accepted until April 29, 2019.

There is no charge for the Women’s Academy, materials or required equipment/uniforms. All applicants must be Minnesota residents and between the ages of 18-55 and will be required to complete a brief background screening.
