Updated COVID-19 vaccine recommended for everyone age 6 months and older

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against potentially serious illness this fall and winter. Updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna will soon be available at more pharmacies, health care providers and clinics. Find a COVID-19 vaccine at vaccines.gov

If you have not received a COVID-19 vaccine in the past 2 months, get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect yourself this fall and winter.  Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19-related hospitalization and death. Vaccination also reduces your chance of suffering the effects of Long COVID, which can develop with any infection and last a long time.

If you have health insurance

  • Most, but not all, plans will provide the COVID-19 vaccine for free. Talk with your health insurance about your coverage before scheduling an appointment in order to avoid a surprise bill.

If you don’t have health insurance, or it’s not covered

Consider one of the following free or low-cost vaccine options:

  • Contact the nearest Community Health Center (CHC) at Minnesota Health Centers: Find a Health Center.
  • Call the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) COVID-19 public hotline at 1-833-431-2053 Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday, Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to locate a community vaccination event near you.

If you have children

  • Most clinics that provide medical services to children in Minnesota participate in the Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) program. Simply ask your clinic about getting free or low-cost vaccines for your child.
    • If your child does not have insurance or has insurance that does not cover vaccines, use the MDH Vaccination Clinic Web Map to find clinics that offer low-cost shots.

Saint Paul – Ramsey County Public Health has not yet received the updated vaccine. When it is available, we will have updated vaccine at Clinic 555 and at community sites in partnership with health care partners.
