On climate justice: Working with community

Strategic Priority

Ramsey County's updated strategic priorities emphasize working with community to determine what resources, programs and services the county should offer to reduce the impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities and support climate adaptation practices across the county. The new emphasis on climate change allows the county to focus working with vulnerable communities to understand how best to pursue climate justice.

Community Conversations

Equity Strategies has facilitated six conversations between county staff and the community. The goal of these was to understand the experience of vulnerable community members in Ramsey County and begin to develop recommendations for the county to implement in response to climate change. Community conversations will continue through January. Check back to learn more.

Resilient Communities Project

The county is also working with a group of University of Minnesota Resilient Communities Project fellows who are researching best practices for engaging vulnerable communities in planning for climate change and meeting with a focus group to discuss engagement strategies this semester. Professor Fernando Burga is guiding these fellows and will expand this research in the spring with a class of Humphrey Institute planners focused on developing a climate adaptation engagement plan.
