Candidate Filing

Contact us

An individual who would like to be placed on a ballot, therefore officially considered a candidate for election, must submit a filing fee (or a petition in place of filing fee) and an affidavit of candidacy to a designated candidate filing officer during a candidate filing period.

Note: an individual may establish a campaign committee, which ensures campaign finance reporting requirements are fulfilled, prior to officially filing for office.

Any individual considering candidacy should verify they are qualified before filing for office. When filing an affidavit of candidacy, individuals must state under oath that they:

  • are eligible to vote.
  • will be at least 21 years of age upon taking office.
  • will have been a resident of the district for at least 30 days before the general election.
  • have no other affidavit on file for the same primary or ensuing general election.

Some offices may involve additional qualification requirements. For any questions regarding running for office, please contact Ramsey County Elections Office.
