2017 Program Report: Diversionary Work Program (DWP)

Annual Business Report Subpage Image

The primary goal of Workforce Solutions’ Diversionary Work Program (DWP) is to prevent families from needing long-term public assistance by helping them find employment right away. Quick access to work-focused services enables participants to capitalize on their strengths and to identify and address barriers to work.

DWP counselors coordinate and monitor participants’ job search efforts through short-term case management, regular contact, access to support services, and referrals to on-site activities such as job skills workshops, job clubs, and resource center use. Counselors also assist participants in identifying and addressing employment barriers. Families can participate in the program for four consecutive months. This short-term program does not count towards MFIP’s 60 month time limit.

Featured Client: Ebony

Ebony came to the Diversionary Work Program (DWP) during a time when she was living with a friend, attempting to stabilize her finances, complete her GED and get her own apartment. While in the program she received child care assistance and support services for transportation imperative to better employment. Working part-time jobs did not give her the hours or income necessary to become independent. Working with her DWP employment counselor, Ebony was hired as an assistant manager for a Minnesota company and has increased her income from $14.00 to $18.00 an hour. Ebony is no longer on public financial assistance and is looking forward to continued growth and success.

My employment counselor helped me update my resume and highlight professional skills. I am proud to say, I am now an assistant manager for a Minnesota company. I have increased my income and I am no longer on public financial assistance. Thank you Workforce Solutions.
