In Ramsey County, there are curfews for young people under the age of 18. Called curfew ordinances, these laws are created by each city to regulate how late youth can be out at night without a parent or guardian. Curfews are designed to protect children and teens because statistics show that a significant amount of crime involving children under 18—both as victims and as offenders—happens late at night.

The law applies if the child is in any public place after curfew and includes walking, biking and driving a vehicle. Each curfew ordinance is different, but they commonly include exceptions such as driving to and from work, a school activity, religious observances and emergencies.
