The transmission network near Pigs Eye Lake Regional Park has been part of our community since the 1960s. Over time, this 115-kilovolt (kV) system has reached the end of its expected service life. To maintain safe and reliable energy for residents, Xcel Energy is moving forward with a rebuild of the infrastructure. This work will modernize the transmission system, strengthen reliability, and help reduce the risk of power outages in the region.
As part of the project, the existing two-circuit transmission lines will be placed on separate structures. This update provides needed redundancy, ensuring continued service reliability for customers. In addition, because electrical codes have been updated in recent decades, the new transmission lines will be built to meet today’s safety and performance standards.
Timeline
Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025 with completion expected in March 2026. Work will take place in the winter months to allow safe access and to reduce impacts on wildlife, including migrating birds.
