Building an All-Abilities Transportation Network

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners approved the All-Abilities Transportation Network in December 2016 to advance the county's vision of "A vibrant community in which all are valued and thrive." Prior to adopting the resolution, the county board conducted workshops with staff members from the County Manger’s Office, Public Works, Public Health, Regional Railroad Authority and Parks & Recreation on July 12 and 19, 2016 to review and refine its organization-wide approach to building an all abilities transportation network. Additional actions will flow from those two workshops during the months and years ahead.

Ramsey County Public Works and other departments use an evaluation checklist for road, trail and transit projects. The checklist tracks consideration of project design features for pedestrians, bicycles, transit, motorized vehicles, and freight based on factors affecting corridors such as current travel use, land use, community input and parking needs. Copies of the checklist are available by request.
