A number of volunteer positions with Ramsey County are available for youth ages 11-18.
Frequent filer/office assistant
Description: Provide supplementary and auxiliary clerical services to community human services staff. We offer flexible scheduling at our downtown Saint Paul and Midway offices. Volunteers may be placed in units within the Ramsey County Government Center East building, or at various community-based sites.
Age requirement: At least 16 years.
Time commitment: The minimal commitment for the position is a three-month term. Scheduling is flexible within the regular business hours of the site location and is arranged with supervising staff.
Description: Junior assistant naturalists (JANs) are important members of the Tamarack summer day camp team. Like a camp counselor, they serve as fun, friendly companions and mentors to our younger participants. JANs assist with all aspects of day camp including preparing activities, leading games and helping supervise campers, ensuring everyone has a fun and safe experience.
Ages: 14-17 (must be age 14 by September 1)
Time commitment: Summer; 3-6 weeks
Training: Mandatory two-day training in late June (dates TBD)
Requirements: Applicants must enjoy working with small children, getting their hands dirty and be a playful and active participant. A strong sense of commitment and responsibility are also required. All applicants musty attend an information session with a parent and complete an interview with Tamarack staff in addition to the mandatory two-day training.
Description: A few times each year, volunteers are asked to assist with special public events at the Tamarack Nature Center, like the annual Tamarack Trick-or-Treat event for families. Volunteers help lead activities, crafts, hikes and games for visitors throughout these events.
Ages: Adults (18 and older), youth ages 14 and older and ages 12-13 with an adult.
