Critters day camps are offered to children ages 4-5 and those entering Kindergarten unless otherwise noted.
All sessions are $95 for a four-day camp session, unless otherwise noted. 
Critters camps are held Monday-Thursday.

Green Thumb Gardeners 

June 18-21
9.a.m.-noon
Extended ages 3 years old - entering
Kindergarten
Did you know good gardeners have “green thumbs”? Develop your green thumb by digging into our garden and get the dirt on seeds, plants, fruits and vegetables. Play garden games, make fresh snacks and plant seeds to grow your very own box garden to take home.

ABCs of Nature 

June 18-21
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. - full day camp ($195)

A is for acorn. B is for butterfly. How many ABCs in nature can YOU spy? Join us as we search high and low items in nature that start with each letter of the alphabet. Use things founds in nature to create alphabet art and put a new spin on our favorite alphabet song! 

Mudpuppies

June 25-28
9 a.m.-noon - Critters only
1 - 4 p.m. - extended ages, 4 years old - entering 2nd grade 

There’s nothing better than mucking in the mud and feeling it squish between your toes! Look for critters at the bottom of the marsh, make mud nests like the birds and wasps do, and make mud sculptures. Have no fear — we’ll arrange for the mess, mud, mayhem and best of all, the cleanup.

Animal Superheroes

July 9-12
9 a.m.-noon - Critters only
1 - 4 p.m. - extended ages, 4 years old - entering 2nd grade 

What can cut through trees, breathe underwater and fly through the sky? Your favorite animal superheroes! Explore the world through compound eyes, study creatures up-close and master a super-skill obstacle course. Discover your own superpowers to become a superhero-in-training.

Ready, Set…Explore!  

July 9-12
9 a.m.-noon - extended ages 3 years old - entering 
Kindergarten
Grab your backpack and field journal and get ready for adventure! Lead the way on daily discovery hikes and meet the plants and animals that call Tamarack home. Create your own spotting scope, join in an “animal rescue” obstacle course, play games and of course, explore!

Dinosaur Adventures 

July 16-19
9 a.m-noon - extended ages 3 years old - entering Kindergarten 

Why did the dinosaur go to Adventure Camp? To have a “T-rexiffic Time” of course! You will too as we dive deep into the timeline of the dinosaurs. Become an official nature time-traveler as we explore the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic time periods, find fossils and have fun prehistoric play.

STEM for Nature Lovers 

July 16-19
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. - full day camp ($195) 

Dig in and learn about a different animal group each day! Put STEM pre-K practices to use to learn more about birds, mammals, herps and insects. Can you measure the distance of a grasshopper leap? Build a nest like a bird? Learn what hands-on nature fun is all about in this interactive camp!

Frog Facts and Turtle Tales 

July 23-26
9 a.m.-noon - extended ages 3 years old - entering
Kindergarten
Jump, splash, glub…. Scour habitats, make crafts and meet TNC’s animal ambassadors. Test the froggy leap and the turtle trudge and learn all about Minnesota’s cold-blooded friends.

​Hug a Bug 

July 23-26
9 a.m.-noon - extended ages, 3 years old - entering Kindergarten
1 - 4 p.m. - extended ages, 4 years old - entering 2nd grade 

Green grasshoppers, red ladybugs, orange monarchs and yellow beetles! Tamarack Nature Center has a kaleidoscope of colorful insects for you to capture and release. Collect bug food, make a bug hat and meet a few of our six-legged friends.

Paws and Claws 

July 30 - August 2
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. - full day camp ($195)

Furry paws, scaly claws, tiny toes... what can you tell about an animal by looking at its feet? Learn about all kinds of animals and discover why they have the feet they do! Create an animal footprint guidebook and use it to identify the animals of Tamarack.

Itsy-Bitsy Wonders 

July 30 - August 2
9 a.m. - noon - extended ages 3 years old - entering
Kindergarten
The best things come in small packages! Bring your magnifying glass and be amazed when you find miniscule water bugs, tiny ant worlds and petite plants. Create teeny treasures to take home and enjoy. How many mini-miracles will you find? 

Whose Clues? 

August 6-9
9 a.m-noon

Whose clues are these? Someone keeps leaving clues around the nature center! Follow them to figure out where those clever clues lead us. Complete tasks, find animals, solve puzzles as we work together to find the clue master!

Gardens Galore 

August 13-16
9 a.m-noon - extended ages, 3 years old - entering
Kindergarten​
Our garden has been growing fast all summer. Now it’s time to dig, pick and pull up all the wonderful fruits of the season. Eat garden veggies fresh off the vine, follow simple garden-variety recipes and create “green” art projects.

Camp Wild and Crazy  

August 13-16
9 a.m-noon

Are you ready to get wild and crazy? We are too! We’re wild about animals, crazy about playing outside and excited about everything else in between. Spend time every day in Discovery Hollow getting down and dirty while exploring. Come get wild and crazy – in nature!

Best of Critters

August 13-16
1 p.m.-4 p.m. 

Celebrate the end of summer with a grab bag of camp fun. We’ll keep track of the best, most popular activities and recreate the magic of summer. You never know what’s going to make it on the “best of” list, so stay tuned and be surprised with the rest of us!
