The Care Center has closed
The Ramsey County Care Center was a comprehensive skilled nursing care facility the county opened in 1959 at 2000 White Bear Avenue in Maplewood and operated until its closing in 2022.
Over time, the need for Care Center services changed due to several factors:
- An increase in privately owned companies that offer more options for senior living, including memory care, assisted living, and nursing homes.
- The implementation of the Affordable Care Act that increased choices available on the continuum of care and created incentives for seniors to access home and community-based services.
Given these developments, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners, on March 8, 2022, approved a plan to close the Ramsey County Care Center. The county worked with residents, families and state agencies to ensure that every remaining resident found a place to live that met their needs. The last resident left the Care Center in July 2022 and the facility was closed in September 2022.
